Description

Publisher’s note:
This chilling text by Irish/American poet Lola Ridge is as relevant now as it was when it was written in 1918. On face value the poem can be taken as a chronicle on the power of nature, however, Ridge is sure to have used the text as a metaphor for other forms of human destruction. Composer Seán Doherty chooses double SATB choir to fully explore the energy and furore described in the text. The music has relentless momentum, the composer using antiphonal conversations between the two choirs, close imitation of parts and cacophonies of swirling sound to portray the forces that are at play. An electrifying choral work that works perfectly as an opener or closer to any concert or festival programme.
